People love to learn.  It's one of the fundamental traits we carry throughout our lives...the curiosity to learn from others and the desire to remain relevant.  When people join Knoitall, they do so to fulfill these fundamental desires in ways that cannot be experienced through other social platforms.  Your first step in creating a thriving community of followers through Knoitall is to understand these needs within the Knoitall audience at large, and to fulfill these needs within your Knoitall audience.

  1. Educate Your World.  We proclaim this throughout Knoitall as a community imperative.  Each day your audience makes decisions about how they spend the few free moments they have.  Will they spend them checking in with friends on Knoitall, following celebrities' lives on Twitter, or will they spend them being educated by you?  That is the question you must address for your audience at Knoitall.  Provide a more meaningful experience by focusing on the personal or professional development of your Knoitall community and you will go a long way towards moving their time towards you and your educational listings.
    1. Create new content or wrap our learning tags around your existing content.  Most of our users have already spread multiple learning items across the web.  They are just hidden as blog posts, YouTube videos, SlideShare presentations, etc.  Post them through Knoitall and they become wrapped through our contextual learning tags that provide meaning to your audience.
    2. Tag the content of others.  Like other social communities, Knoitall is a sharing community.  The primary difference is that everything shared leads to specific learning outcomes for your audience.  If you find a piece of learning that your audience would value, tag it and post it.  Your audience will appreciate your endorsement.
    3. Offer your time for sale to your audience.  As your audience grows and they come to trust you as an expert on the topics you cover, they will want to connect with you more deeply.  Knoitall gives you the tools to sell your time, either by creating a class or one-to-one tutoring.
    4. Create learning pathways. One of the most powerful tools available through Knoitall is the ability to take your existing learning items and place them into chronological order for your audience.  Once you do this, your items will automatically show up in your follower's feeds in the order you have created them to display through your pathway. It's a wonderful way to package your learning.
  2. Start powerful conversations with your audience.  Be authentic and open to your followers.  Give them reasons to comment on your posts and other learning opportunities.  Be responsive to your audience by following up quickly on their comments and questions.  And don't shy away from negative feedback.  if you do receive a negative comment, see if you can find a way to validate the user for their views while at the same time addressing the comment in a way that will be received positively by your audience.  We could deliver an entire course in how to do this well, but the key is authenticity and acceptance.  Remember, word of mouth is still the most powerful tool we have for building our community.
  3. Give your audience reasons to invite their friends to follow you.  If you deliver a face-to-face class, this is easy.  Most people want to take classes with their friends.  But there are a number of other ways to get your audience to invite their friends:
    1. Create compelling learning content.  People always want to know the secret to what makes one video go viral and not another.  Ultimately it's quality and timing.  If you create compelling content, your audience will want to share it with others.
    2. Provide discounts on items you sell through Knoitall for groups.
    3. Ask.  It never hurts to ask your audience to invite their friends, especially if it will enhance the community discussion.
  4. Spread your message across multiple social platforms.  Post your learning items created in Knoitall to your other social channels.
  5. Build Out Your Knoitall Classroom into an awesome experience for your followers.  We've taken a number of community building tools, and placed them into your "My Classroom" link at the top of this page.  Take advantage of these to build out a classroom that will draw in your audience so that they can get to know you and/or your organization more deeply.
    1. Brand your classroom with a great name.  Come up with something unique.  If you want to teach others about sailing, name your classroom "America's Cup".  You get the idea.
    2. Add a video introduction.  We give you the tools to embed video and images directly into your description.  Take advantage of this to give your audience a video introduction.  If you have a physical location, embed photos of your location, or of people learning from you.
    3. Include testimonials.  Show how you’ve impacted the lives of your customers through testimonials or case studies.  This allows people to experience your brand in the context of their own lives.
    4. Make sure to identify the topics you cover. There's a field in the classroom profile that allows you to select the topics under which you want to be found.  Make sure to enter at least a few.  In this way you will start showing up throughout the Knoitall platform to other users who interests match yours.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments on what we've listed here.  We'd love to help you in any way we can.

We'd all love to sell what we know.  It's a great way to join the gig economy and earn additional income.  But, before we can sell our knowledge to others, we have to convince them that we're worth the investment of their time and money.

One of the best ways to do this is by demonstrating to your audience that you are an expert on the topics for which you teach.  And the humble Knoitall learning post is a great way to show your audience your knowledge, either by sharing new content, or tagging existing learning materials that you have created.  It allows you to build trust with your audience by providing free resources that will engage your followers and demonstrate your capabilities.

A learner is much more willing to buy from someone who has demonstrated knowledge...someone who the learner trusts.  And a consistent feed of new learning posts is a great way to continually demonstrate to your followers that you are knowledgable and passionate about the topics you teach.

Knoitall has developed its own tools to instill trust within the overall community.  First and foremost, Knoitall has a buyer guarantee for any items that are sold through the marketplace.  These are listed in our buyer protections, and include a money back guarantee for any learning that is purchased on not delivered.

We also enforce strict listing requirements to ensure that all items listed through Knoitall lead to real learning outcomes.  These learning outcomes need to be defined by the learning provider.

Our age parameters ensure that learning that is listed is tagged appropriately for the audience, ranging from child to preteen, teen, and adult.

Together we are creating a robust community of knowledge seekers covering thousands of topics.  Thank you for contributing.

  1. 5 Steps to Building Social Selling Influence
Free Resource (Video, Article, Pod Cast or Other)
Adult

This is a great post I found that identifies education as the #1 way to build your social influence and enhance your brand, whether it be your personal brand or your Organization's brand.  By educating your audience, you are building a following of brand ambassadors who are deeply committed and knowledgable about your products and services.

According to the post, "Mix up the content: ebooks, tip sheets, articles, and commentary. There are no short-cuts in relationship building, and while education is a longer-term investment, in social selling it is an extremely important one. When buyers are ready to make a purchasing decision, they will remember your generosity and openness."

  1. What is a Pathway?
  2. Learn how you can use pathways to organize your learning items
  3. Learn how pathways get delivered to your followers through their feeds
Free Resource (Video, Article, Pod Cast or Other)
Teen, Adult

We are very excited to announce that we have created a way for you to organize your learning items into a LEARNING PATHWAY, where the items you organize are delivered to your followers in the order you determine.  This is wonderful way to teach your audience using learning posts, YouTube videos, blog posts, or other existing items.

What is a Knoitall Learning Pathway?

A Knoitall Learning Pathway is the organization of learning items into a chronology that is then delivered to a learner's feed in the order determined by the learning provider.  Take, for example, a learning provider who has 10 YouTube videos, all covering the topic of "Learning and Speaking French".  This learning provider can create a Learning Pathway by placing the 10 videos in the order that they should be delivered to their followers to maximize the learning experience.  For example, if the provider wanted to deliver Beginning French through a pathway, he or she would organize the videos so that the learner went through them in the order required to learn beginning French...each video building on what was delivered through the previous video.

This is incredibly powerful!

When you post an item into your other social channels, they will deliver it to your audience in the order that it was posted with the most current postings getting delivered now, and your prior postings will get removed from your followers' feeds as they are replaced with newer items.  This is not the case when you create a Learning Pathway through Knoitall.  By doing so, in essence, what you are telling us, is that you want the items that are placed into the pathway to be delivered to your audience in the order that they are placed into the pathway.

And, whenever someone new decides to follow you, they will get your pathway delivered to them in their feed, whether it's new or old.  We understand that learning has a longer shelf life than other forms of posts.

Create Your First Pathway

  1. Start by clicking on the "My Classroom" link and selecting "Add a Pathway".
  1. Title your pathway and provide a description
  2. Select the items you have already created in Knoitall and add them to your pathway.
  3. Save your pathway.

Once you have created your pathway, Knoitall will automatically begin to deliver your items to your followers' feeds in the order that you placed them in the pathway.  Each day your audience will get a new item delivered into their feed until all of the items have been presented.

The learner also can click on the pathway to go to the pathway page and view any of the items placed within the pathway. This gives your audience the ability to come back to your learning pathway numerous times to review the individual items.

We hope you will use this new feature often to package your learning items into pathways that will automatically deliver your learning to both your current followers and any new followers.

  1. Learn how using our platform to educate your customers can improve retention and build social ambassadors for your products and services
  2. Learn how Knoitall can help you educate and engage your current and future customers
  3. Learn how our platform supports your customer support initiatives

We built Knoitall as a social network for individuals and organizations who want to educate their worlds.  One of the most successful use cases for our network are companies that use Knoitall as the foundation for their customer support strategies.  There is no better way to engage, retain, and grow your customer ambassadors than by continually educating them on your products.

Research has shown that there is a direct link between your greatest ambassadors and their unique knowledge of your product and how to exploit that knowledge.  In fact, some products today are "intentionally" hard to use to attract those who want to be the Know-it-alls about your product or service.

Your Knoitall classroom can be the foundation of your ongoing interactions with customers.  It's a place where customers can follow your Organization and be "in-the-know" about new product features, or the social benefits of your offerings.  Customers come to your Knoitall page with a mindset that they will learn something new each time they arrive.  If they choose to follow your organization and a specific product, they will be notified each time you create a new post.

If you want to engage more directly with your customers, you can list your ongoing product webinars, or provide one-to-one online advising on specific topics.  You can even list and deliver classes to your customers in the communities where they live.  All of this is supported through the knoitall platform.

Get started by building out the profile for your Knoitall classroom.  We have another post that covers the details of building your online classroom.

Once that is complete, tag learning content that your organization has already created.  This could be listed on sites like YouTube, Slideshare, etc., or it may reside in your dropbox or other cloud.  Wherever it is, it's easy to tag it to your Knoitall classroom so that your followers can find and consume it through their Knoitall feeds.

When you have a variety of learning posts, create a pathway that consolidates these posts into a tutorial for your customers.  Create an introductory tutorial on your product, an intermediate, and an advanced.  The beauty of pathways is that the content placed in the pathway is delivered to each of your followers in the order you placed it into the pathway.  And it doesn't require you do anything on your part.  Pathway content gets delivered automatically to your customers on a daily basis when they choose to follow you.

Finally, set up some more in depth opportunities for your customers to learn about your products...a webinar, or a face-to-face class.

  1. Learn when it's appropriate to use Knoitall as your blogging platform

If the primary purpose of your blog is to teach others about a subject you are passionate about, and the subject is covered at Knoitall, then we think we have the perfect platform for you.

Why?

A few reasons.

First, we have a highly engaged and rapidly growing audience of lifelong learners.  Each time a learner signs up, and their interests match those that you blog about, they can elect to follow and learn from you.  So, Knoitall provides a "built-in" audience of potential followers that will help you build your brand.

Second, we can help you organize your blog posts into pathways that place your posts in the order you would like them to be read by your followers.  Each day, one of your blog posts will be pulled out of your pathway and delivered to your followers in the order you placed it. This is great if you have a particular order you'd like your posts to follow.  And, you don't even need to create new posts to reach your followers.  Your existing posts can be delivered to new followers if they are placed into a Pathway.

Finally, our platform supports opportunities for you to get paid for your knowledge.  Once your followers trust that you know what you're blogging about, they are much more likely to pay for a direct connection to you.

We call your space on Knoitall a classroom, with the primary focus of helping you to create and organize blog posts around learning.  We call them learning posts, and they are quite simply blog posts that deliver learning outcomes.

If you're already a member at Knoitall, Start by clicking the Teach button and create you first learning post. If you haven't yet joined, try us out.  I think you'll like how simple it is to educate your world through Knoitall.

Congratulations! You've just joined the smartest community on the internet.  We're really glad you're here and we truly do want this to become the best 15 minutes in your daily routine.  This is our goal for every person who joins Knoitall.

To that end, we have made every attempt to connect you with people who are experts in the topics that interest you.  When you signed up, you identified the topics you want to learn more about, and, hopefully, you selected some people and organizations that deliver learning around those topics.  This process can always be updated!  From within your learning feed, click on the "Find More Providers" link and you can add topics of interest, or find more providers that cover your current topics.

If you've just logged in, you have landed in your learning feed.  This is where we organize all of your learning opportunities so that you can quickly browse and view anything new, comment or ask questions, or post your own learning opportunities.  We try to give you all of the tools to do all of your own learning and your teaching directly from within your learning feed.

You will be notified through email any time something new is delivered to your learning feed.  You will also be notified if others choose to follow you, and/or if they have comments and questions on the learning posts you have created.

When you arrive at your feed, we provide a few tools that we hope will help direct you to the learning that is most valuable to you.  You'll notice that each learning post begins with a set of outcomes.  These tell you specifically what you will learn if you consume that piece of learning.  You'll also see that we've structured the information on each piece of learning so that you can quickly see who created it, the format of the learning, and the age range that it is appropriate for.  We provide you with a "snippet" of the learning content, but you can click the "Read more" link to open up the remainder of the content.  Or, if you want to focus on a specific piece of learning, just click its title and you will be taken to a separate page to view it in more detail.

Do you have questions or comments on a piece of learning content in your feed?  Just click on the comments link and type away.  The provider will be notified and you will be notified when they respond.  You can also share content with others in your network by clicking the "Share" link.

So, now that you've become an active learner through Knoitall, it's time to teach others!  When you signed up, you were prompted to identify some topics that you know something about.  We used this information to create your very own classroom where anything you create to teach others will be stored.  You can always edit your classroom to add an image, rename it, add a profile, and sign up to accept credit card payments.  This is all done through the "My Classroom" link above.

But you don't have do any of that to get started teaching others.  Simply click on the "Teach" link at the top of your feed, and select the type of learning you wish to deliver.  We recommend you start by "Sharing Your Knowledge".  It's easy.  It's set up just like a blogging platform, but with some specialized tools so that you can focus on teaching others what you know.

Enjoy your own personal learning feed and contribute to the community by sharing what you know.

  1. Learn how your Knoitall classroom can be privatized
Free Resource (Video, Article, Pod Cast or Other)
Teen, Adult

We serve a number of organizations that have created private classrooms for their key stakeholders.  Many times the learning they want to deliver is proprietary and contains key intellectual property that they would prefer not make it into the public domain.

Knoitall supports this approach by privatizing the classroom through Simple SAML Single Sign On.  This is a digital handshake that occurs between an organizations server and Knoitall, and allows a person authenticated on the organization's side to enter the Knoitall classroom.

Knoitall has resources that are devoted to this service for organizations that seek it.  It normally takes a couple of weeks to work out the details and set up the authentication through SSO.

If you are interested in privatizing your classroom, please email us at support@knoitall.com and someone will reach out to you with more details.

In the future we plan to launch the capability to privatize your classroom and grant access based upon approval of individuals who request access.  At this point SSO is the only option.
